Your First Clue That It's a Scam
Whoever is sending out the email is going to your website contact form on your contact page and filling out the form.
You and I both know that if your domain name was about to expire that is not the method that domain name registrars contact you.
If you don't know where your domain was registered at, go to https://www.godaddy.com/whois and put in your URL and it'll tell you where it is registered.
Yes I just shared a GoDaddy link. No we don't recommend using GoDaddy for anything but the WHOIS lookup. Namecheap is way better for domain names.
Other Similar Scams
There are numerous similar scams going on right now that are basically the same with a different name.
The most common is the one you'll get in the mail that looks like a bill.
But if you read it closely you will see it is not a bill. Usually they are asking for a few hundred dollars.
If You Have Your Website w/ Troyer Websites
If you are one of our customers and you didn't have the domain name before you ordered your website from us, we take care of your domain name for you.
It's covered with your annual website renewal.
But if you had your domain name before you came to Troyer Websites, it is your choice whether you want it in your account or in our account. If you choose to keep it in your account, you are responsible to keep it renewed.
If you aren't sure where it is, use the WHOIS lookup link and check.
Just be careful!
Don't fall for these scams and whatever you do, don't ever be a "Joe Miller". (No offense if your name is Joe Miller)
